Projected seed: 12 (automatic qualifier)

McNeese State's résumé justifies its current seeding because the Cowboys have collected resume-defining neutral-site wins over Washington, Murray State and Middle Tennessee and earned a resume-boosting true road victory at Rhode Island while also racking up a string of conference road wins that show they can close games away from home. Those high points are offset by a devastating loss at Michigan and a handful of damaging defeats on the road at Santa Clara, Incarnate Word and Sam Houston State that prevent the profile from climbing further. The committee will reward the neutral-site and genuine road success but will also penalize the clear bad losses, so McNeese's best path is a strong run through the Southland slate and into the league tournament to lock things up or use any remaining neutral opportunities to erase the late blemishes and force an upward move.
